Who knows our products better than our customers?
Why we test
We strive to have a deep understanding of how our products perform throughout their entire lifecycle. From pre-production to field-aged trucks, we want to make sure PACCAR means high-quality and innovative engineering to our customers.
How You can help
We need your experience and your trucks. We know how valuable your time and trucks are, so we will minimize impact to your operations and provide compensation for participation.
Our commitment to the environment
PACCAR believes we can build trucks that power a prosperous future and reduce our environmental impact. Our products are designed to meet the U.S. Environmental Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards for their entire life-cycle. Monitoring our products in the real world ensures we keep our commitment and continue improving and innovating.
Testing timeline
The timeline below shows when, in years, a testing program would take place during the life of a product. Select a testing program to jump to its section and learn more.
Our Testing Programs
Customer field trial (CFT)
CFT is a test focused on the next generation of PACCAR products before their launch. PACCAR provides test trucks and assigns an engineer for each truck. We’ll monitor your truck’s performance and ensure it operates in the same manner as the rest of your fleet. Design Validation occurs early in development and Quality Validation occurs close to production to fine tune before launch.
What we look for
- Customers willing to participate in the Design and Quality Validation processes
What we offer
- Get an early look at the next generation of PACCAR products
- For Design Validation trucks, receive a free vehicle leased through Kenworth or Peterbilt during the testing period
- For Quality Validations trucks, receive a monthly incentive of $1,000 for each vehicle involved during the testing period
In-Use Monitor Performance Ratio (IUMPR)
IUMPR is a test that tracks how often the on-board diagnostics (OBD) system monitors the performance of emission-related components for malfunction. Diagnostic data is downloaded in the field with no impact on your operations.
What we look for
- Trucks configured and classified as vocational, linehaul, or pickup-and-delivery
Deterioration Factor (DF) Validation
DF Validation is a test required by CARB and the EPA that’s used to compare emission levels as the truck ages. Field-aged engines with aftertreatment systems are tested in a laboratory environment.
What we look for
- A specific engine family and rating
- More than 150K miles on the vehicle
- Original major emissions-related components like camshaft, EGR, Turbo, DOC, DPF, and SCR
- No major rebuilds or accidents
What we offer
- Receive a new aftertreatment system with warranty and compensation for downtime OR
- Sell your truck to PACCAR.
Manufacturer Self-Test (MST)
All engine manufacturers in the United States, including PACCAR, are required by CARB to run tests and monitor the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system on high-mileage vehicles. Field-aged engines with aftertreatment systems are tested in a laboratory environment.
What we look for
- A specific engine family and rating
- More than 305K miles on the vehicle
- Original major emissions-related components like camshaft, EGR, Turbo, DOC, DPF, and SCR
- No major rebuilds or accidents
What we offer
- Sell your truck to PACCAR, OR
- Receive a new engine with warranty, a new aftertreatment system with warranty, and compensation for downtime
Heavy-Duty in-Use testing (HDIUT)
HDIUT is a test required by EPA that measures tailpipe emissions under normal drive cycle. A portable emissions measurement system (PEMS) is installed on the truck. It will not interfere with truck operation or schedule.
What we look for
- Fleet operator with 5+ candidate trucks that operate daily out of the same location
- 3+ hours of non-idle operations
- Less than 435k miles on the vehicle
- Original major emissions-related components like camshaft, EGR, Turbo, DOC, DPF, and SCR
- No major rebuilds or accidents
What we offer
- Receive compensation in the form of dealership credit
High Mileage Test (HMT)
HMT is an independent study done by PACCAR to drive better standards for our products and our environment. Field-aged engines with aftertreatment systems are tested in a laboratory environment.
What we look for
- A specific engine family and rating
- More than 350K miles on the vehicle or 17k hours of engine operation
- Original major emissions-related components like camshaft, EGR, Turbo, DOC, DPF, and SCR
- No major rebuilds or accidents
What we offer
- Sell your truck to PACCAR, OR
- Receive a new engine with warranty, a new aftertreatment system with warranty, and compensation for downtime, OR
- Extend the warranty on your existing engine and aftertreatment
